Seen in the comments section about an article by Rashid Khalidi titled An invitation Rep. Jackson should have declined.
I have new found respect for Rep. Jackson and a less fthan I did before for the Tribune. Allowing differing opinions to be rationally expressed is both good journalism and usefull to the debate. Providing a public forum for propaganda, lies, and distortion is neither. Frasnkly, I would have assumed your editors would have hit the reject button as soon as they saw the word "flack", if not far sooner. What a piece of garbage. My own vote would be to quadruple aid to our ally, israel so long as they use ever dime fighting Arab terrorism, but I'm glad that many members of congress decided to see and hear for themselves the current situation before making such decisions. It is said that before Bush became President he once rode in a helicopter where he could see for himself how vulnerable was Israel's 8 mile wide territory , the proximity of Hamas and Hezbullah controlled areas and the integration of the entire city of Jerusalem (all in one ride). Perhaps it is insights like these that the undistinguished Professor of arab studies at one of the most notoriously Anti-Semitc and Anti-Israel faculties wants no member of congress to experience.
wow, there are so many mistatements of fact in this op ed piece, i dont know where to begin.
so i wont
although i find mr khalidi's concern trolling over aid provided to israel, to be a bit disengenous, as he doesnt seem a bit concerned over the billions of dollars in aid moneis provided to the palestinians, egyptians or other countries...would that money too not be better spent at home?
and as far as non violent protest in the mlk vein, that khalidi insists is practiced by the palestinians, i woul love for him to show any of the readers when mlk advocated rock throwing, molotov cocktail tossing, throat slitting of infants, rocket firing, or running stolen taxis into crowds of teenagers in a dance club.
that khalidi sees the need to lie about what really goes on in the israel and palestine, shows the weakness of his cause.
